The following are samples and comments on work we have done recently:

All too often the entry hall to a home gets neglected.  People pour all of their time, energy, and money into the family room and kitchen without so much as giving the hallway a second thought, but that is the first thing people see when they enter your home!  The result: By painting the grass cloth a warmer tone and softening the brick floors with billowing sheers and red silks, the entry hall takes on a new life.  Add a few personal touches to give your visitors a clue about your personality and voila - an entry worth entering!

When a home has been abandoned and left to fend for itself, the results are never good.  This kitchen was covered in head to toe black mold and need tons of TLC.  After ripping away three layers of linoleum, many sheets of drywall and wallpaper, as well as the vintage mahogany cabinets, the homeowner was left with an empty shell of a kitchen.  The result: By allowing the home to retain its 70's roots with orange paint and an acid stained floor, the space began to come alive with the addition of stark white cabinets, recessed lights, and a new bar area in place of the old picture window.

This cabin-like kitchen began with green cabinets against the crisp white back splash. With the help of several layers of faux finishing, the cabinets took on a new life and were ready for a modern counter top, back splash, and more. Plan B found a complimentary granite counter top, orange tiles, and bronze embellishments to highlight the new cabinets as well as the vineyard theme the couple was searching for. The result: An updated kitchen with rust colored walls, warm chocolate brown upholstered chairs, bronze tubs and canisters, as well as rustic chandeliers to complete the space.

Sage green and Pepto Bismol pink were once all the rage in decorating. Combine this tragic color scheme with floral wallpaper, layered swags, and a chandelier fit for a haunted house  and you have discovered this outdated dining room in Southern Georgia. The result: With formal dining rooms collecting dust, the homeowners declared it a game room. Swap out the table for billiards, swags for retro inspired curtains, and a true bold red and black Georgia color scheme and this former dust bin turns into a play den.

On the opposite side of the floral wall, and sharing a doorway, was this super sized 20' by 16' formal living room containing one very large, but lonely couch. Being the room that greeted guests upon arrival, the pink canvas seemed to stretch for miles leaving little to converse about. The result: By toning down the walls with a warm chocolate brown, adding a ceiling fan to the center of the room, and bursts of contrasting colors in window treatments, pillows, and furniture, the room quickly became a cozy library for the homeowner to curl up with a good book or sip a cup coffee while chatting with a close friend.

This floor to ceiling paneled family room gave off a summer camp jamboree playroom vibe that felt like a claustrophobic afterthought.  The homeowner wanted a more fluid space which would allow family and friends to be together, without making them feel like sardines.  The result: By removing a full wall into the kitchen and a half wall in the game room, the space immediately took on the feel of a modern great room.  By utilizing a Brady Bunch color palette of yellows, oranges, reds and browns, the home instantly became a warm social circle of conversation.

This rather unremarkable room was the sole guest room for a young couple. They liked the color scheme, but wanted it revamped with a modern touch and cozy feel, one which would be appreciated equally by their parents and friends during visits. The result: An updated variation of the color scheme with hints of chocolate browns and greens to soften the brighter hues.

A teenager's room is a perpetual disaster. Most parents hesitate to buy their offspring anything new, as their young adult has yet to learn how to properly care for anything. Therefore hand me down furniture, mismatched pieces, and worn out mattresses typically serve as the foundation behind the clothes explosion. The result: By starting with the obvious, cleaning up, we were able to see the canvas we had to redesign. Since there wasn't a large budget, all the existing furniture needed to stay and the parents requested the wall color stay somewhat neutral as they are planning on selling their home in the next few years. An avocado green wall becomes our base line with bursts of pinks, browns, and oranges, and our teenager comes home to find a trendy new room.

Sometimes we move into homes that were questionably decorated by the previous owner. It can be difficult to see beyond the puffy clouds and chair rail cows in the guest bedroom, especially when the new homeowner has no children. Plan B ReDesigns' job was to create a sophisticated guest room that will appeal to the couple's thirty something friends. The result: A contemporary deep purple room with harsh contrasts in black, white, and gray and minimal furnishings in order to make the small space feel larger.

Sometimes getting a good deal on a house means that you need to look beyond the 70's avocado green sink and coordinating toilet. And sometimes the project gets bigger than expected when one sheet of linoleum leads to two which leads to a third layer of battleship linoleum with an asbestos layer. This is when most people throw their hands up in the air and call in the experts. The result: A new and modern vanity, sink, faucet, and toilet automatically give this half bath the update it so desperately needed. With the addition of soothing aloe green paint (to keep with the bathroom's roots), a rounded mirror, and wall accessories, the room now represents its newest owner.

When it comes to older homes, the hardest aspect for most homeowners is to see beyond the vintage wallpaper. In this space, the pattern was painful to even look at, let alone spend time with while doing your hair and make-up in the morning. Since the couple was originally from the coast, we decided to focus on a nautical theme to remind them of their roots. The result: A serene master bath with clean lines and a soothing palette that lends itself perfectly to a warm bath at the end of the day.

Peeling wallpaper, rusty faucets, and antique light fixtures were the highlight of this small guest bath desperately in need of an update. The result: Mustard yellow paint softened the wall in combination with a muted rustic light fixture, wooden framed mirror, and a collection of complementary artwork.

Even without electricity to highlight the color scheme, the flat yellow walls and neglected fixtures seem to scream out from the darkness. The result: A quick splash of apple green paint, combined with navy blue to weigh down the cabinets, creates an inviting guest bath with a mod polka dot twist.

Jack and Jill baths should always be decorated to suit either gender. However, this bathroom clearly ignored the rules and went berserk with pastel pinks and several shades of ivory. The result: A soothing blue seaside motif lends itself to a serene start to the day. With a nautical rug, sandy prints, and some silk lilies reflecting in the morning sun, this bath will surely put a smile on your face.

Commercial Decorating

The Rockdale Career Academy gave its students a great space at the front of the school to host a coffee shop. However, they decorated it as if it were just another classroom. The space lacked comfort, usefulness, and any sense of being young and hip. Plan B was brought in to give the students and faculty an inviting area to relax and enjoy a cup of java before or after a long day. The result: A Moroccan inspired coffee house with large couches, a myriad of colors and fabrics, and pub tables for students to sit and get their work done.

When GNG Electric first leased their office space, they walked through the ivory maze and decided that some sort of decorating had to get done. But what do you hang or paint on a wall in an electrical firm? Plan B provided the answer to the question. The result: A large, colorful copy of their logo is stenciled onto the reception wall to greet clients, and the motto of the company is blown up and stenciled across a plain wall in the conference room, with a faux black wire connecting key information boxes between electrical outlets along a 40 foot corridor.

Churches are perpetually on a budget and yet always trying to give their attendees more bang for their buck. So was the case with this office space Discover Point Church had available and needed to revamp in order to host a teen small group on Saturday nights. The goal was give the group enough seating for at least 12 teenagers, have ample space for bulletins, and a small corner for food and drinks. The result: Plan B painted the drab wallpaper with off setting colors to tie in the carpet and window treatments, hung heavy draperies so light could be blocked to watch videos, and donated miscellaneous furnishings to provide both a living room and dining area space for the youth.

Our local community theater had been in desperate need of a remodel for years. However, the year the Conyers-Rockdale Center for the Arts was granted enough funds to fully remodel the facility, they called in the experts. We started backstage, worked our way through the actual auditorium, and finished up in the executive offices (below). The result: An updated, vibrant theater that is more spacious, with extra storage, cozier seats, and an office that caters to the small space and creativity of its staff.

This is the executive office of the Conyers-Rockdale Center for the Arts. With the same budget and funds granted for revamping the theater (above), we were able to do an overhaul on the office space as well. The result: More storage through custom cabinetry to eliminate clutter in a limited space and a color palette suitable for an arts organization.

A county nearing the completion of their courtroom remodel requested some final touches to bridge the roots of the town to its current and future residents. The result: By framing the previous mayors photos in coordinating mattes, the back wall became a focal point and road map to how the county came to be where they are today. In addition, over-sized patriotic posters were hung behind each of the city council members seats, as well as the county emblem behind the mayor.

When starting from scratch in an open space, it can be cumbersome to decide on woods, flooring, cabinetry, wall colors, space planning, and more. The sheer number of choices that exist can overpower the tenant's ability to make even one choice. Our job was to narrow down the search and only bring to the table the options best suited for the client and the space. The result: By Design Int'l Salon now has a contemporary red and black color scheme to compliment the Vintage Hollywood Theme which we created throughout the entire space.

A local high school with a culinary arts focus was given this small cafe to educate the students on how to effectively run their own lunch room. Unfortunately, the initial budget did not allow for much in the way of color, artwork, or accessories. The result: By raising some extra funding, we were able to soften the walls with a luscious wine color, frame some educational food posters, and add some pizazz with matching linens.

Holiday Decorating

When you have a large home and host an annual Christmas party, the task of decorating every room can seem daunting, especially when it includes a twenty foot tree and three fireplace mantels. The result: By utilizing the spiral staircase as Old St. Nick's escape route, a large Santa bag spills out from the top step with presents cascading in all sizes, shapes, and colors. In the background, the enormous tree demands attention from every direction with its collection of finials, flowers, lights, and over 500 ornaments.

The basis of this Halloween party was an abandoned home, so we covered all the furniture in old white sheets like they always did in old haunted house movies. Then we brought in colored lighting, moved out the existing furniture and used the dining room set in the library to create the authentic Victorian feel with the fireplace, candelabras and books (which have all been turned backwards to reveal plain white pages). The result: A spooky dining area to display food, offer additional seating for guests, and keep with the home's overall Hallowed feel without spending a fortune.

The front of the home looked far too welcoming and was about as scary as a wide eyed 10 week old puppy, so we added some cobwebs, boarded up the 1st floor windows, placed strobe and mood lighting throughout the shrubbery and a deathly doorman to greet the guests. This set a frightful tone for the party before the guests even stepped inside to greater horrors. The result: A stunning and hard to ignore facade to set the stage for the costume party inside.
